There were many good answers including pressing seams well, using a clapper on the seams after pressing, join a guild to meet other with same interests and learn new things, maintain sewing machine, cut pieces slightly larger and then cut down to right size after piecing, chain and web piecing, using feed dogs to help sew pieces of slightly different sizes, measure twice and cut once, if in doubt about cutting size, refer to pattern. Bonnie Hunter had a goo tutorial on web piecing. <br /><br />Annual Dues of $10 are now due for 2024. Katy J collected $10 annual dues from members. <br /><br />Katie Kull did a demo on facing a quilt. Facing is an alternative to binding. Facing can be made different sizes. You begin by sewing it to the quilt front, once sewn, the facing is turned to the back and cannot be seen from the front. Katie shared her very beautiful quilts that she had used facing as her edge finish. Patricia Belyea, Okan Art, her book East meets West Quilts was the teacher Katie took a class from. <br /><br />Upcoming challenge – 2 color challenge project due at March 28, 2024 meeting – detailed information found on the website. <br /><br />Upcoming swap – Thread catchers will be made and swapped with an assigned recipient. margin-bottom: 0.11in;">
<span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: small;"><b>Meeting September 28, 2023
at 6 PM</b></span></p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: small;"><b>Old
Worthington Library</b></span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;">13
people attended. </span>
</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;">The
meeting was opened by Leigh asking each person to say their name and
asked the question if you have been to a quilting retreat, what do
you feel you can’t leave home without? Answers ranged from lots of
wound bobbins, patterns cut and ready to sew, extra fabric (in case),
cutting utensils, thread sewing machine and wine!! One person
suggested to bring more than you can finish. Also, bring some
smaller projects to fill extra time. </span>
</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: small;">We
were also asked to bring something we use for quilting that is not a
quilting tool. Members brought chopsticks, forks to help make
zippers, stretchy hair ties, boxes and storage container we reuse,
clear bandage tape to help keep rulers from sliding, weights to hold
patterns and to hold rulers when cutting – the ideas were endless!</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>All
Ohio Shop Hop – </b></span><span style="font-size: small;">Several
members visited some shops, but Carol, visited all 60 shops!! Two
of her favorites were Polka Dot Pin Cushion in northern Ohio and
Stitches in Cincinnati. </span>
</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Quilt

or Leslie, you will need to make your own reservations at the Hotel
Millersburg. More information is on FB. </span>
</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Swap
– </b></span><span style="font-size: small;">Many of us
brought a pattern and we swapped with a member. </span>
</span></p>
<p style="line-height: 108%; margin-bottom: 0.11in;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>Block
raffle – </b></span><span style="font-size: small;">Several
people participated in the autumn leaf block raffle. Block size
finished at 12-1/2.<br />
Barb was the winner of 14 blocks!</span></span></p>

Meeting May 25, 2023 at 6 PM
Old Worthington Library
13 people attended, including 1 first time attendee.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">
The meeting was opened by Leigh asking each person to say their name and asked the question have you
made a quilt inspired by a picture? She asked this as Bonnie was going to talk to us about turning a picture into a pattern to make a quilting project. Some had made this type of project in the past.
<br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">2023 dues of $10 are now due. Cash only.
<br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Fabric swap</b>- Kaffe Fassett was the fabric swap, which is one yard of fabric, cut into fat eighths. No fabric
swap at June meeting.
<br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Challenge –</b> Turn a traditional block into a modern block. Five members participated in this challenge.
Projects included quilt, table runner, wall hangings and pillow. See FB for pictures.
Pin cushion swap – make a pin cushion of your choice, put it in a bag and bring to the June 22 meeting and swap with another member. She suggested using crushed walnut shells for filler. A couple of pattern
suggestions are on the website.
<br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Challenges –</b> Next challenge due at August 24 meeting. Bonnie did a presentation on turning a photo into a pattern to make a quilting project. This can have a realistic, abstract or impressionist look to it. She discussed the materials and strategies she uses to complete this type of project. Her notes will be posted on the website.</span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">
<b>Block raffle -</b> Leigh handed out 2 small brown pieces of fabric to us to be used in the block raffle due at June 22 meeting for the improv tree quilt block. Examples of this block can be found online.
<br /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.295; margin-bottom: 8pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Show and Tell –</b> 6 members shared their projects. See FB for pictures.
Instead of a mystery quilt this year we are going to be doing a sew along quilt. We will all be working
on a string quilt. Each month you will be bring one or more blocks in to show the club at the monthly
meeting. There are no rules for what method you follow just that you complete one block each month.
Some Themes are scrappy, rainbow, same color family, and selvages. Another way to help your
design is to look up #stringquilts on Instagram.
