CMQG February Meeting

We had a great meeting last Thursday featuring a fabulous presentation by Rita on free motion quilting.

Rita included great tips like...

...practicing your pattern by drawing it on a whiteboard before sewing...

...and wearing grippy safety gloves while sewing! Thanks, Rita, for a great demo!

As usual we had a great turn out for show & tell!

My Very Own Blanket Charity Events

Erin G., who runs Sticks N Stitches, has been kind enough to invite members of CMQG to join in their outing at the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game.  All the details are listed below.  Also, if anyone would like to donate supplies or bath items, we will be collecting items at the March meeting.  Again, see all the details below.

Sticks N Stitches 2011

This marks the fourth year for Sticks N Stitches with our Columbus Blue Jackets. Sticks N Stitches has been a great opportunity for fiber artists to get together, cheer on our team and bring our crafts to the public.
This year's game is Sunday March 20 at 5pm against the New Jersey Devils! We will be sitting in section 207 and tickets are $25 a piece.

We will be supporting the local charity - My Very Own Blanket this year. My Very Own Blanket provides blankets and bath kits to area foster children. They accept knit, crochet, sewn, "no-sew" and quilted blankets. Suggestions for blanket sizes and materials can be found on their website. We will be accepting finished blankets, bath kit supplies, blanket supplies and any monetary donations at the organizer table during the game.

If you, or someone you know, would like to be added to the mailing list please visit: http://blog.halfacregoods.com/stick/ and sign up for the email list.

What the Columbus Modern Quilt Guild can do to help:
Donating Supplies

Do you have a sewing closet that is overflowing with too much fabric and sewing items? Donate your unused fabric to My Very Own Blanket. Personal hygiene items to be used in the bath kits. In each bath kit, we include a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb or hair brush, mesh bath scrubber (loofah), shampoo and soap. Both travel size and full size can be used.

If you would like to donate supplies for My Very Own Blanket, please bring them to the March 17th CMQG meeting and Erin will pick them up.

Quilter's Home FREE "Modern Quilt Primer" e-Book

I wanted to pass along a message that came through the MQG leaders group.  Quilter's Home is offering a free e-book with 3 free patterns. They're calling it a "Modern Quilt Primer e-Book." The 3 patterns are Alissa Haight Carlton's Land and Sea quilt, Elizabeth Hartman's Wellington Park, and Scott Hansen's Building 312.

Thought you may enjoy some free modern patterns!
