Color selection
Fabric will be provided

Will you be providing fabric?
Yes

Directions:
Using the tutorial and the fabric I have provided, you will make 2 blocks in reverse colors.  Cut a 2 inch strip from the bottom of the 2 main fabrics.  This will go on either side of the trunk.  The trees will all be wonky (some tall and skinny, some short and fat, others leaning to one side or the other).  You can trim up the blocks a bit, but I'll cut them to size once they all come back and I can see what sizes they turned out to be.

Solids/Color of the Year Challenge

Image result for kona pink flamingo

We all love prints, but have you ever made a project using nothing but solid fabrics? That's what we're challenging you to do with the CMQ Solids Challenge.

But that's not all. Have you seen Kona's Color of the Year, Pink Flamingo? If we give you some of this fabric can you figure out how to incorporate it into a project? That's the idea behind the Color of the Year Challenge.

That's right - there are two challenges here and a prize for each category. Choose to participate in one or knock out both challenges by making a project using only solid colors including Pink Flamingo.

Here are the details:

Solids Challenge: Make a project using ONLY solid-colored fabrics - and that's fabrics plural, so it has to be more than one! And solids means solids, so no low volume, no grunge, no shot cotton, like the Moccasin Sampler from Gen X Quilters above.. You can make anything you like - a mini quilt, a fabric basket, a bag, so long as piecing or applique is involved. You'll be judged by your peers, who will choose their favorite final product.
As a side note, Moda's Bella Solids Challenge is still going on. If you're working on that contest, feel free to use your project for our challenge as well.

Color of the Year Challenge: Use Kona Pink Flamingo in your project. It's that simple. We just want you to make any pieced/appliqued project you desire but incorporate this color in any quantity you choose. If you attended the April meeting, you went home with some of this fabric. Again, it cannot be the ONLY color in your project and piecing or applique must be involved. Make a mini quilt, fabric basket, bag, garment with piecing, whatever makes you happy! The group will vote on their favorite use of the color.

Ready to sign up? Click Here to register. Projects are due at the June meeting. Also, click here for the CMQ Challenge Rules. You must be a dues-paying member to participate, so make sure you're paid up!

Zipper Demo
Rachel demonstrated different zipper installation techniques. Which leads us to a zippered pouch swap! This will be a secret swap so you will not know who you will be receiving from until the reveal at the May meeting. You will only be able to receive your swap pouch if you have your pouch for your partner. Be sure to post a mosaic on Instagram and use #cbusmqswap. More information can be found here.

Be sure to get your dues of $10 to Jennie H. You have a chance to win a March Cotton+Steel Stash Builder Box at the April meeting! You must be present at the April Meeting to be entered into the drawing.

Bee Blocks
The queen bee for March was Donna. She chose a paper pieced string star. Can’t wait to see then all together.

The queen bee for April is Cynthia. Cynthia chose a wonky economy block. Details for the block can be found here.

Block Raffle
For the block raffle this month we made the Scrappy Majestic Mountain Block from Bonnie Hunter. The modern spin on this block looks fantastic. Congrats to Ellen for being our lucky winner.

Beads of Courage
Thanks to Ellen and Chris for donating their bags to our charity initiative for 2017 benefiting Beads of Courage. We’ve already donated 50 bags to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with more to be donated soon. More information about our charity initiatives can be found here.
