CMQG Mug Rug Swap

CMQG will start it's first swap at the December meeting - and we'll kick it off with a social Holiday party to get to know our partners and each other.

A MUG RUG SWAP

So what is a mug rug, you ask??  It's a small quilt, roughly around 8" x 10" in size, that can be used for a cup of coffee or tea and a cookie.  It is larger than a coaster and smaller than a placemat......and it's all the rage on quilty blogs right now.  They whip up super quick, and honestly, are very addicting to make!

If you would like to participate:
1.  Bring a ziploc baggie full of scraps (scraps must be at least 2" x 2" in size) to the January meeting.

2.  All baggies will be put into a hat.  Everyone will draw one baggie out.  You will make a mug rug for the person who's baggie you draw using their scraps.  The person who draws your baggie will make one for you.

3.  You may add one complementary fabric to the scrap baggie you draw to help round out the fabric needs for backing and binding.

4.  Bring back your finished Mug Rug for your partner at the February meeting!

At the January meeting, we will spend some time getting to know who we are partnered up with (likes, dislikes, etc.) to help you make the mug rug.

Christmas FQ Challenge and Nov. Show & Tell

Great meeting last night!  We had a lot to share... the items made from the Christmas FQ Challenge, our favorite notion or tool from our sewing space, and of course, Show & Tell.

The Challenge was pretty cool if I do say so myself.  Given that we all started with the same FQ, it was neat to see each person's take on how to use it in a project.  There were pillows, little bags and pouches, pot holders, an advent calendar, a table runner.....and the list could go on.  Check out this pic of everyone's projects..

I think as a group, we are definitely interested in doing more challenges.

First CMQG meeting a smashing success!

The very first CMQG meeting was on Thursday.....and I have to say I was shocked.  We had 37 people attend!!!  Awesome!  A smashing success!  We had introductions, show & tell, giveaways and a lot of chatter.  We are all excited at the open ended possibilities for this group.

A survey was given to everyone to feel out what types of activities people are interested in.  I am in the process of reviewing these....

We met lots of new friends - and I hope to see you all back at the next meeting.

First Flyers Out!

I made a trip to Sew to Speak and The Glass Thimble yesterday to hand out the fliers for CMQG.  Jamie at Glass Thimble thought we would see the most interest at those 2 shops and Quilt Trends.  So I'll be hitting there next....

I can send the Word document to you if you wouldn't mind taking some copies to your favorite shop.  Just let me know if you're willing to help out with recruitment!  Thanks!

Flyers to Spread the Word!

Hi there!  I am currently working on making up some fliers to post at quilt and fabric shops around Columbus to recruit members.  Let me know if you'd like to get involved to help!

I am on the west side, so an east side contact would really help me out in spreading word.  More details to come!
