February Meeting

Columbus Modern Quilters  - columbusmodernquilters.com

Meeting February 29, 2024 at 6:30 PM

Old Worthington Library

17 people attended.

We were asked to bring our favorite quilting ruler with us.  Leigh opened the meeting by sharing her ruler,  Add a quarter inch.  The other rulers that members brought included, Classic Curves Ruler by Color Girl Quilts, slide lock ruler, Stripology, Quilt in a day, sew straight ruler,   bloc loc (blockloc.com), Sew Kind of Wonderful mini ruler, Creative Grids rulers, plus those that forgot a ruler still had info to share.  A few had thoughts to share about keeping your ruler from slipping, they included using  a spray, clear medical tape, using a small hand weight on the end.

Annual Dues of $10 are now due for 2024.

Upcoming challenge – 2 color challenge project due at March 28, 2024 meeting – detailed information found on the website.  Bonnie clarified that it is a 2 color project.  It is possible that a print could be used in addition to this, but it would have to be the exact two colors.  If In question on this, please contact Bonnie.

Upcoming swap – Thread catchers will be made and swapped with an assigned recipient. Partners have been chosen and   Leigh has contacted those participating with their recipient’s name and likes, color etc.  The thread catchers will be due at the April 25 meeting.

Quilt project for 2024 This project will consist of a monochromatic quilt.  Solids or prints can be used, but should be of the same color family.  At February, please bring pattern, March meeting would be color and fabric chosen.  May meeting will be cutting, August meeting some completed blocks and due at November meeting.  About 11 members expressed an interest in this project.

Quilting retreats – 2 quilting retreats will be help this year,   one in April and one in July.   They will both be held at the Hotel Millersburg.  Contact Leslie Wood for more information.   No July guild meeting due to the retreat in July.

Fabric Swap  Grunge fabric was swapped.  Several members participated.

Block raffle –A new block raffle was voted on, which will be due at the March meeting.  The winner was Then Came June, Sugar Quilt block.  You can get the pattern by going to the Then Came June blog,   enter your email and name and it will be emailed to you for no charge.   We will be making the 9-1/2” block.  Color is sewists choice.

Quilt ruler library – we will have more discussion on a possible library of quilt rulers.   The idea is for members to donate rulers they may no longer want and they could be lent out to other members to use and then return.

March demo – Katie Kull will be doing an improv piecing demo.   Promises to be fabulous (in my opinion)!!!

Show and Tell  - several members shared their projects – pictures available on FB.
