February: Cool Curved Piecing
Next Meeting: March 15 and the demo will be thread painting and bobbin work - - you won’t want to miss it. Hope to see you all there!
Sew In Alert!: The next Sew In at Quilt Trends will be March 10. The two sessions will run from 11:00-5:00. Keep an eye out for the sign up via email.
And don’t forget…This April 21st, we're going to be doing a hand sewing demonstration at Chick Lit and Chocolate. They are looking for volunteers to hand quilt for a couple hours to show visitors how it’s done. If you are interested, see Dana.
Meeting Notes:
We had a great turn out at the February meeting. And since we all love our gadgets, the meeting began with everyone introducing themselves and sharing their favorite quilting tool. Who would have thought that so many of us love our rulers! Other favorites include Kona color card, eQuilter, curved blade scissors, Fons & Porter binding tool, and quilting gloves. Whew!
Philanthropy Project: Nancy Zieman of Nancy’s Notions sponsors a project called Little Dresses for Africa. To quote the web site: “Simple dresses are made out of pillow cases, and distributed through the orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy!” The dresses are no larger than a pillow case (which can actually be used for an automatically hemmed sun dress). They use 5/8 to 1-1/8 yd. fabric, bias tape, and elastic if you wish. Anyone who would like to participate can bring finished sundresses to the May meeting. They will then be boxed up; sent to Nancy Zieman in Wisconsin who in turn will ship them to Africa. Here are some links with more information as well as directions for these cute and much needed little dresses: Little Dresses for Africa à http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/blog/ Nancy’s Notions àhttp://www.nancysnotions.com/jump.do?itemID=5&itemType=LANDING&page=creative
Wrist Pincushion Swap!! – Pincushions! What would we do without them? Our next swap will be wrist pincushions. Here’s how it will work: If you’d like to participate, bring 4 or 5 coordinating scraps of fabric that are at least 5” square in a baggie with your name on it to the March meeting. We’ll do the clever put-them-all-in-a-bag-and-pull-one-out to find out who you’ll be designing for. Here’s a website with lots of examples and directions à http://tipnut.com/22-free-pincushion-patterns/ . Bring finished pincushions to the April meeting.
Demo – Sue gave a great demo on piecing curves using the ever so clever Curve Master Foot. Thanks, Sue!
And here are some pictures of quilts at the meeting -
