See you this Thursday!

This Thursday, July 18th at 7 pm is our monthly Columbus Modern Quilt Guild Meeting! As always, everyone is welcome, no charge and no need to bring anything - though everyone is encourage to bring a show and tell quilt/sewn object or work in progress

A couple details:

• Barb is looking to write an article on pieced Quilt Backs (or even two sided quilts). If anyone has any quilts they designed and made themselves with interesting quilt backs, would they please bring them to the meeting to be photographed? 

• Swap! There will be a swap to make Ann’s cute seat belt cover. Just bring a baggie with some small pieces of fabric to be teamed up with another member for the swap.

• We'll be discussing the July 27th trip to the Dairy Barn Arts Center trip to see the Quilt National 2013. 

•  We'll be discussing the details on the potential for membership into the National Modern Quilt Guild

• Last but not Least…last month we collected contributions ($2/person) so that we can apply to become an NQA guild, but we came up a bit short. Please consider contributing at this meeting.

This weekend! June 7: Sew In at Quilt Trends - Sign up Here! 

June 16:  Art Quilt Alliance reception from 2:00-4:00 at Inniswood Metro Park in Westerville to kick off their show that will be on display throughout the month.

No CMQG meeting in June (so erase that one from your calendar!)

June 28: Group outing to NQA show at the Columbus Convention Center – check our blog for meet up details if you want to carpool

July meeting – there will be a swap to make Anne’s cute seat belt cover. Just bring a baggie with some small pieces of fabric to be teamed up with another member for the swap.

July 27: Dairy Barn Arts Center trip to see the Quilt National 2013. According to those who have gone before, this is an awesome show that deserves a big “Woo Hoo!”

The sew-in will be from 4:30-9:00 (or a bit later). Please sign up so we can make sure there's enough room for everyone! The form is below or you can follow this link if there are issues with the form. We can bring food or order in food, so there is a slot for that.

Updates From Other Ohio Guilds

Some quick updates from other sewing areas of Ohio!

First Kara at Me and Elna from Cincinnati is hosting an #OHcraft sewing retreat in Ohio in November 2013 - sign up at this link! If we get enough Columbus Modern Ladies, we can do a four to a room for those that are interested? It's getting full, so sign up quick if you would like to attend!

Second, the NW Ohio Modern Quilt Guild is hosting this fun ArtSpark Challenge and they'd love some participation from Columbus Guild members! Here is the basic overview

The idea behind this challenge is to visit your local art museum and find a piece of art that inspires you. Any piece! A sculpture, a piece of glass, an oil painting, anything! Classic, baroque, modern, contemporary - your choice! You game? 

PRIZES
Winners will be picked randomly from the Flickr pools. Enter as many pictures as you would like but only 1 picture/quilt per person is eligible to win. What do you have to do to win?
- By July 1st, 11:59 PM EST upload a photo to the Flickr Art Spark WIP group- By August 1st, 11:59 PM EST upload a photo to the Flickr Art Spark Finished Projects group

100 Semi-Finalists: Who Will Make the Fabric8?Today we're very pleased to announce the semi-finalists in the Fabric8 Contest from Spoonflower and Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The 100 designs up for voting were selected by a team of fabric industry professionals out of a pool of over 750 entries. Between now and May 15th, vote for your favorite Geek Chic designs. The top eight designers selected by voting will be asked to expand their design into a 4-piece collection before the final votes are cast and the next fabric design superstar is announced!

Our next Sew In is scheduled at Quilt Trends for Friday, June 7th after 4:30 PM.  We will have details at our next meeting and we will post a sign up link closer to the Sew In date.

The deadline for quilt submissions to the NQA show is May 10th.  There are still openings  for entries so send something in from your collection!
