Hive #1 August block

• Block Design: Please follow this tutorial on Fresh Lemons Quilts.
• Fabric selection: Please avoid solids. For the background, use low volume white or light grey (it should read white or light grey). For the main star, use low volume rainbow colors. Please do not use brown or black. The main star can be as scrappy as you like.
  
  

Hive #2 August block

• Block Design: Please follow this tutorial on Craftsy.
• Background: the background should be one print or solid. You can use a low volume print or any color solid.
• Star: can be scrappy or one color, any prints.

Hive 1 July Block

(Hive 1 only! If you're in hive 2, please follow Elizabeth's instructions.)

• Block Design: Please follow this tutorial.
• Fabric selection: For the colors, think OSU/Buckeyes. Red, black, grey and white. For the red, please use cooler/purple reds and stay away from warmer/orange reds. Scrappy is fine for the prints, but please use a solid color for the four corners. All four corners should be the same solid, white is preferred but any of the four colors is fine.

Hive 2 July Bee Block

I'm going with a rainbow colored paper pieced Lone Star to celebrate the historic Supreme Court decision!  The pattern is a free download from Craftsy, and it can be found here.

As far as fabric selection goes, please pick one of these and post your choice on the Facebook page.  Kona solids are listed in parenthesis for reference, but please use prints for pieces 1, 4 & 5.  For the thin stripe (pieces 2 & 3) please use a solid to match, or as close to it as you have.

Red (Chinese Red, Rich Red)- Danielle

Yellow/Orange (Papaya, School Bus)

Yellow (Corn, Yellow Citrus)- Lauren

You can go super scrappy or just pick one or two prints for the star - whatever you are in the mood for at the moment.  For the background (pieces 6 & 7), please use one or more low volume prints.  I love text fabric!! 

Don't worry about removing your papers or squaring up your blocks once they are assembled.

May Minutes

Our May meeting was hosted by Red Rooster Quilts. The owner Karen and Estill did a wonder job of showing us how to use two different types of rulers to make curves by Sew Kinda Wonderful's and the other made by Creative Grids.

Information on The Quick Curve Ruler can be found HERE and can be bought at Red Rooster Quilts. We found out there were many different patterns that could made with this ruler so we were not just buying it to make one or two quilts.

Estill showed us a second ruler called The Curvy Savvy Ruler more info can be found on the Creative Grids website and can be bought at Red Rooster Quilts. He also showed up how to use The Cats Cradel Tool which is also made by Creative Grids.

Our last demo of the day was by one of our members, Elizabeth. Elizabeth had a hands on demo on English Paper Piecing. She bought everyone needles, thread, fabric, and a pattern so we could make 3 hexagons.  Once we learned how to make the hexagons we sewed them together and did a drawing. We had our 1st UFO check in, and we had 6 members check in their finished UFO. The winner of this check in was Kathy Gordon. Great job on finishing you UFOs!

Other Business:

*Dana was wondering if any one would like to do a Quilt show, she was thinking at Whetstone Library. This would be a show outside similar to one that Kathy saw in Florida. Here is a link to Kathy's blog where she did a post about the quilt show.

*We will NOT be having a "regular" meeting in June. We will be having a sew-in. Lauren will be hosting it at her work. For all the information on the Sew In please see our club Facebook page event HERE! Or to Sign up for the Sew In please use this FORM so we know how many people will be coming!

Hive #1 June bee block

• Block Design: Pick any block you like, as long as the finished size is 12" or bigger. Anything goes- traditional, funky, or anything in between.
• Fabric selection: Black and white prints. You can use black and white solids sparingly. For the prints, please do not include any with color. They should be white on white, white on black, black on white, etc. Grey can also be include as part of the print but no colors.
