Japan Relief Charity Quilts Finished!
These quilts look spectacular(!) and I am so proud of them because they were put together in the first-ever charity effort by the Columbus Modern Quilt Guild.
We had a couple extra charm packs leftover from the Robert Kaufman Kona Challenge, so we decided to make lap quilts using Wonky Star blocks for the relief effort in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami hit the country hard in the spring.
The charms were divided up into ziploc baggies and passed around at a meeting. Everyone snatched them up and returned these awesome funky stars. Look they so vibrant assembled together!
(let me know if I forgot someone...)

I am packing up both quilts and sending them to a friend who returned to Japan this summer.
A huge THANK YOU to all in CMQG who helped with these quilts.
And a special thanks to:
Kristen H. who helped organize and sew much (pieced, quilted and bound one quilt top)
Beth N and Marilyn G. who donated Kona White
Amanda S. who donated backing fabric
Stacy V for binding one quilt
Pamela B. for piecing one quilt top
Cristin W. for quilting one quilt top

July's Meeting
Our next meeting is this Thursday! How did it sneak up so quickly?
If you couldn't come to our July meeting, you missed:
A presentation on hand dyeing fabrics by Dana that included some of her own beautifully dyed fabrics...

Some really inspiring show-and-tell projects, including this small selection...

And a great discussion about the future of our guild, including ideas for officers. If you are interested in this discussion it will be ongoing for the next meeting or two!
And because I was remiss in posting after our April and May meetings (so sorry, work and travel got the better of me!), here are our group photos from the Kona solids challenge!

See you Thursday!
Beth

The hours are changed to 10-5 Monday to Saturday. (NO late evenings during the week.)
FYI in case anyone decides to drive up to Delaware....
Thanks Pam for sharing!
